Our story

We have spent many happy family holidays in Ambleside and so in 2019 we took the plunge and were lucky enough to be able to buy our own cottage.

Competition for holiday properties at the time was fierce and we were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to make an offer on Amble Cottage. We had travelled to the Lake District to view another cottage, which wasn’t quite what we were looking for and as we were leaving the agent mentioned they had another cottage not yet on the market. We viewed on it Friday afternoon and by Monday it had multiple viewings and offers on the table – but we were so fortunate to have our offer accepted. It was meant to be!

Since we took ownership at the end of May 2019 we have done a considerable amount of refurbishing, a new kitchen and the woodchip throughout has gone (a mammoth task!). We have bought beds, soft furnishings and carpeted the bedrooms. The upstairs bedroom, which was previously more or less derelict, is now a lovely single room with views from the bed towards Loughrigg. It is my favourite room and if I’m there on my own will definitely choose to sleep there.

The cottage sleeps 4 comfortably, although there are five beds so would also suit a family of five or with 2 teenage children who prefer their own room.

It is in such a quiet area of Ambleside that there is practically no noise at all at night, but only 2 minutes from the hustle of the busy town centre. There are great places to eat and fabulous walks without having to get in the car. Our first walk every time we visit is over Wansfell and back via Jenkins Crag. Fairfields horseshoe is another regular favourite.

The cottage is let through Lakeland Retreats, who are on hand in Ambleside, and have a great team who will look after your stay . Please let them know if there are any issues with Amble Cottage.

We love it there and hope you do too!
